“Pirajá da Silva” Award

The "Pirajá da Silva" Award will be granted to the author of the best work presented during the oral sessions of the event.

For the selection of oral presentations, each abstract will be evaluated by two reviewers per area, based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance of the topic;
  • Clarity and achievement of objectives;
  • Adequacy and detail of methods;
  • Consistency, innovation, and impact of the results.

After the presentation, the works will be evaluated by the audience, who will assign scores to each presentation. The highest score will determine the award winner.

José Pellegrino" and "Amaury Coutinho" Awards

The "José Pellegrino" award will be bestowed upon the author of the best doctoral thesis, while the "Amaury Coutinho" award will be given to the author of the outstanding master's dissertation, both in the field of schistosomiasis.

Submission Period:

The deadline for submitting theses, dissertations, and videos is from 4th to August 29th, 2024. Please send your submissions to the following email: schistosymposium@fiocruz.br

Participation Criteria:

To be eligible for awards in this edition of the event, only dissertations and theses defended in Brazil between October 16th, 2022, and August 20th, 2024, will be considered. Submissions must be in PDF format and include a mandatory 5-minute video.

Evaluation Criteria:

The judging committees for the best dissertation and thesis awards will each comprise three researchers/professors with expertise in schistosomiasis and experience in diverse fields of research and teaching.

Theses and dissertations will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Clear introduction to the topic,
  • Adequate literature review,
  • Justification of the study,
  • Clear and concise formulation of the question(s) and hypothesis(s),
  • Detailed materials and methods, including appropriateness of the methodology used,
  • Presentation of results,
  • Analysis and discussion of the obtained results,
  • Conclusions, perspectives, and exploration of potential implications and/or applications of the research,
  • Technical quality and clarity of figures and tables,
  • Clear writing and the use of appropriate language,
  • Scientific articles published in indexed journals.

Videos serve as a strategy for promoting and highlighting the work in schistosomiasis. The video, recorded by the dissertation or thesis author, should be brief (maximum 5 minutes) and use language accessible to the general public. The aim is for the videos to circulate on the event's website.
